WIFE is an experiential theatre experience born through the collaboration of Los Angeles-based artists Jasmine Albuquerque, Kristen Leahy, and Nina McNeely. Combining surrealist animations with unique choreography and costumes, WIFE utilizes dance as a vehicle for storytelling. Through the integration of technologies, WIFE illuminates mystical phenomena and ancient archetypes. WIFE’s performance The Grey Ones, juxtaposes video mapping with synchronous movement to trace a narrative on the evolution of time. Performed to an original score by electronic composer Amon Tobin, The Grey Ones evokes a scene of myth, matter, decay, transcendence and transformation.
WOAH joined forces with local civic arts partners to bring the trio of WIFE to the Downtown Independent theater in Los Angeles. The opening night reception kicked-off with a pop-up boutique from mobile retail platform VCR and live tunes from vinyl vedas Heidi and Jeniluv.
A recipient of the ARC grant from the Center of Cultural Innovation, WIFE’s visionary works have been showcased at The Getty’s Pacific Standard Time, Bootleg Dance Festival, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, Honor Fraser Gallery, Human Resources, Pieter Performance Space, and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), among other prestigious platforms.
