The Challenge
Through a screening series first debuting in Los Angeles, Eclipsescore featured videos and animations by over 25 internationally recognized artists made in response to the 2017 total solar eclipse.
The Solution
The Los Angeles edition held at NAVEL in downtown LA marked the premiere of Eclipsescore and invited worldwide engagement through a livestream planetary panel with visual pioneers who orient extraterrestrial experiences IRL. Immersive Visualization Producer Sasha Samochina and UX/UI designer Marijke Jorritsma of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab — America’s leading center for robotic space exploration— joined creative technologist Andrew Benson alongside artist, educator, and program host Rick Silva in a live broadcast conversation moderated by WOAH IRL (Sharsten Plenge) exploring the nature of what, when, where and why eclipses continue to infatuate us.
The Result
Following the inaugural landfall of Eclipsescore, the program traversed the path of totality for an outdoor screening in the Oregon Desert at Signal Fire Arts. After the solar eclipse passed, Eclipsescore launched as an online exhibition on view at eclipsecore.org. The screening featured works by Aaron Whitney Bjork, Andrew Benson, Alan Warburton, Brandon Blommaert, Cabbibo, Carl Burton, Eric Mast, Eva Papamargariti, Jillian Mayer, FLOAT (Kate Parsons & Ben Vance), Light Hits, Nicolas Sassoon, Peter Burr, Rosa Menkman, Sabrina Ratté, Scott Gelber, Shana Moulton, Stefan Nadelman, Steph Davidson, Suzy Poling, The Great Nordic Sword Fights, Victoria Keddie, Yoshi Sodeoka and Zack Dougherty. Panelists included Andrew Benson, Marijke Jorritsma, Sasha Samochina, Rick Silva, and Sharsten Plenge.
